Collegeville, PA… The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team won for the second straight time on the road as the Lions posted a 17-6 triumph at Ursinus College on Tuesday.
The win put seventh-ranked TCNJ at 6-2 on the season, while the loss knocked the Bears to 2-5.
The Lions were effective on both ends of the field for most of the first half with sophomore
Erin Waller (Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) getting the offense started with a goal 2:58 into the game with an assist from junior
Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.).
Senior
Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional) scored three of the next four goals, with sophomore
Lauren Karpovich (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) adding another as TCNJ netted the game's first five goals.
The Lion defense was playing well as they kept the Bears off the scoreboard for the first 23:09 of the have and limited them to only two shots on goal.
TCNJ picked up the last three goals of the half with senior
Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scoring with 3:27 left before the break and junior
Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) tacked on two more in the final minute for an 8-1 advantage.
In the second half, the Lions built their lead to 11-1 with Spark getting two goals and freshman
Carly Walters (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) accounting for the other.
TCNJ and Ursinus each scored six goals apiece the rest of the way with the Lions coming away with the 17-6 win.
Spark led all players with seven goals and Nealon also enjoyed a big game with five goals and one assist. Pigott chipped in with a pair of goals and Waller scored once and set up two others.
TCNJ returns home on Thursday, March 28 hosting Manhattanville College in a 7 p.m. start.
