Spark scores seven as TCNJ cages Bears

Senior Alex Spark netted seven goals against the Bears.

Collegeville, PA… The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team won for the second straight time on the road as the Lions posted a 17-6 triumph at Ursinus College on Tuesday.
 
The win put seventh-ranked TCNJ at 6-2 on the season, while the loss knocked the Bears to 2-5.
 
The Lions were effective on both ends of the field for most of the first half with sophomore Erin Waller (Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) getting the offense started with a goal 2:58 into the game with an assist from junior Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.).
 
Senior Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional) scored three of the next four goals, with sophomore Lauren Karpovich (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) adding another as TCNJ netted the game's first five goals.
 
The Lion defense was playing well as they kept the Bears off the scoreboard for the first 23:09 of the have and limited them to only two shots on goal.
 
TCNJ picked up the last three goals of the half with senior Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) scoring with 3:27 left before the break and junior Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) tacked on two more in the final minute for an 8-1 advantage.
 
In the second half, the Lions built their lead to 11-1 with Spark getting two goals and freshman Carly Walters (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) accounting for the other.
 
TCNJ and Ursinus each scored six goals apiece the rest of the way with the Lions coming away with the 17-6 win.
 
Spark led all players with seven goals and Nealon also enjoyed a big game with five goals and one assist. Pigott chipped in with a pair of goals and Waller scored once and set up two others.
 
TCNJ returns home on Thursday, March 28 hosting Manhattanville College in a 7 p.m. start.
