TCNJ scores early and often in win at Kean

Senior Jillian Nealon registered a hat trick in the win.

Union, NJ… The number 13 proved to be a lucky one for The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team as the Lions won their 13th straight conference game with a 17-2 triumph at Kean University on Tuesday.
 
The win put the sixth-ranked Lions at 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Cougars fell to 0-1 in the conference and 1-1 overall.
 
TCNJ grabbed control right from the start scoring the game's first 12 goals with sophomore Kendal Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) starting the barrage 2:05 into the game. The Lions kept things rolling until the latter stages of the half extending the lead to 12 goals. Senior Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional) scoring three times in that span, while senior Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central), junior Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., Monroe Twp.), and junior Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) each tallied twice.
 
After Kean got on the board with 5:08 left in the half, Nealon sent TCNJ into the half with a 13-1 advantage scoring her third of the game 18 seconds before the break.
 
The Lions maintained a big cushion in the second half, outscoring the hosts 4-1 to improve to 2-0.
 
Spark paced TCNJ with four goals and two assists, while Nealon scored three times and set up another goal. Pigott also had a hat trick and Garavente scored twice and set up two others.
 
Borup had her most productive game in her young career with a goal and three assists, while freshman Megan Devlin (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) picked up her first collegiate goal.
 
Junior goalie Kelsey Zinck (Bristow, VA/James W. Robinson) recorded eight saves in the win.
 
The Lions face their first ranked team of the season on Saturday, March 9, heading to Messiah College to take on the 10th-ranked Falcons at 1 p.m.
