#8 Lions drop 11-5 decision at #2 Salisbury

Junior Kelsey Zinck had a career-best 15 saves.
Box Score
Salisbury, MD… Second-ranked Salisbury University scored five straight goals to start the second half and pull away from The College of New jersey women's lacrosse team as the Sea Gulls posted an 11-5 victory on Saturday.

The loss knocked the eighth-ranked Lions to 9-4 on the season, while Salisbury remained undefeated at 13-0.

The hosts scored the first two goals of the game, but sophomore Marissa Pennypacker (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview) scored on a free-position attempt to get TCNJ on the board.

The Sea Gulls increased that margin to 4-1, but goals by juniors Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) and Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) in the final five minutes of the period made it a one-game game.

That score held thanks to Lion goalie Kelsey Zinck (Bristow, VA/James W. Robinson), who made a save on a Sea Gull shot with only four seconds left in the period.

The hosts, however, came out of the break with a pair of goals 16 seconds apart with the latter of those scores coming only 1:35 into the fresh half. Salisbury added three more goals to boast its lead to 9-3 with 17:10 showing on the clock.

The Lions halted that run with a goal from sophomore Kendal Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South). That tally came 34 seconds before the midway point of the half.

The Sea Gulls added two more goals, before Garavente closed out the scoring with her second score of the game with 2:15 left.

Zinck finished with a career-best 15 saves in the game as the Lions held the Sea Gulls to a season-low in goals.

The Lions wrap up New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, April 16 heading to Rutgers University-Camden for a 4 p.m. contest with the Scarlet Raptors.
