Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey used an 11-goal run in the opening half to send them on its way to a 15-8 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday.
The win put the ninth-ranked Lions at 12-4, while the Ducks dropped to 7-9.
The game started out close with the Ducks taking a 2-1 lead, after Lion sophomore
Kendal Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) opened the scoring on a free-position attempt.
Once the Ducks had the lead, TCNJ scored the next 11 goals. While the offense was cashing in on their chances, the Lion defense clamped down keeping Stevens off of the scoreboard for 23:07. At the offensive end of the field, senior
Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central), junior
Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington), and junior
Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) each scored three times in that run, while Borup added the two others.
In the second half, the game was much tighter with Stevens holding a 4-3 edge.
Nealon and Garavente each finished with four goals and one assist, while Borup chipped in with four goals.
For Stevens,
Spencer Waybright (West Hartford, CT/Ethel Walker) topped the team with four goals.
TCNJ goalie
Kelsey Zinck (Bristow, VA/James W. Robinson) finished with six saves.
The Lions round out the regular season on Thursday, April 25 hosting Cabrini College at 7 p.m.
