Hoboken, NJ…The College of New Jersey men's tennis team's bid for a perfect regular season came up one match short as the Lions suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday, falling at Stevens Institute of Technology, 6-3.
TCNJ finished the regular season with a record of 14-1, and will wait until Monday, May 6 when the field of the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament Field is announced to see who their next opponent will be.
The win put the Ducks at 12-7.
The match was tight despite Stevens winning all three points in doubles by a combined five points. The closet of those matches came in the third slot with the Duck tandem pulling out a 9-8 win.
Scoring wins in singles for the Lions were
Howard Telson (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) in the fourth spot,
Pierce Cooper (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) at fifth, and
Jordan Cruz (Manasquan, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) in the sixth position.
