Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse capped off the regular tying a season-high in goals as the Lions handled visiting Cabrini College 19-5 defeat on Thursday.
Prior to the game, the team honored its three seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program in a brief ceremony. Honored were
Becky Gilman (West Allenhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.),
Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central), and
Alex Spark (Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Regional).
The win put the ninth-ranked Lions at 13-4 and the will now wait for the announcement of the field for the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament, which will be made at www.ncaa.com on Sunday, May 5 at 9:30 p.m.
This marked the fourth time this spring TCNJ scored 19 goals and they finished the regular season scoring 15 or more goals on 12 ocassions.
The loss dropped the Cavaliers to 9-7.
The Lions took charge right from the start scoring the game's first 10 goals with junior
Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) opening the scoring 29 seconds into the game. TCNJ then made it 4-0 and Pigott tacked on her second tally of the game with 5:54 expired to make it 5-0. That goal was the 100
th of her career for the Lions.
TCNJ continued to score, pushing the margin to 10-0 with sophomore
Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) and junior
Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) each scoring twice with sophomore
Kendal Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) getting the other goal to push that lead to double figures.
The Lions played a possession game in the second half and outscored the Cavaliers 5-2. Garavente capped the scoring with 7:30 left in the game and that goal was her 50
th of the season.
TCNJ goalie
Kelsey Zinck (Bristow, VA/James W. Robinson) earned the win in goal for the Lions, making 10 saves.
Garavente paced TCNJ with five goals and two assists, while Nealon scored three times and assisted on two others. Healy chipped in with two goals and a pair of helpers.
For Cabrini,
Nathalie Basunga (Swarthmore, PA/Springfield) and
Christina Pasquariello (Gladwyne, PA/Harriton) each finished with a pair of goals.
