Ewing, NJ ... The story of winning tradition that has permeated through The College of New Jersey athletics' history en route to 39 national championships and countless conference titles will be told through 25 banners and a large decal that will be on display at facilities this fall.
Packer Hall received a face-lift that showcases the seven programs who have won national titles at the far end of the south gym. They include lacrosse, softball, women's tennis, men's soccer, women's soccer, field hockey, and wrestling. At the opposite end, the NCAA appearances and New Jersey Athletic Conference championships captured by the men's and women's basketball program, and all 16 wrestlers who have claimed individual national titles on the mats. A decal that reads, "Home of the Lions" with revised athletic logos on each side now sits above the bleachers across from the scorer's table.
Each varsity sport will have a large banner at their home facility that best showcases the achievements of their individual program. The exterior banners will be in place for fall sports before the semester begins.
The Lions' athletic programs have appeared in 71 national championship events, giving them more combined titles and runner-up finishes than any other insituttion in Division III history. TCNJ has also produced 45 individual titles, and 59 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
In the coming weeks, a photo gallery will showcase all of the banners as they appear at their home site.
