Box Score
Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team continued to excel on its home field as the Lions picked up their biggest victory of the season on Saturday taking down third-ranked Salisbury University 1-0.
Â
The win extended TCNJ's winning streak to seven straight and they are a perfect 5-0 this season at Lions' Stadium. Not only are they undefeated on their home turf, they have outscored the opposition 15-1 in those wins with four shutouts. The team's defense has been nothing short of stellar of late. TCNJ has not allowed a goal the last four games and have yielded just 12 shots on goal during that span.
Â
The loss dropped Salisbury to 6-2 on the season.
Â
The 11
th-ranked Lions nearly opened the scoring 13 minutes into the half when junior
Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) tipped a shot from classmate
Erin Waller (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) over the Sea Gull goalie, but that scoring bid was denied by defender
Katie Hastings (Elkton, MD/Elkton) with a defensive save.
Â
The combination of Healy and Waller broke though for a goal later in the half when Healy put a low shot into the Salisbury net with an assist from Waller. That goal came with 14:24 showing on the clock and was Healy's sixth of the season.
Â
That score held in the second half with Salisbury getting a chance to net the equalizer just inside the five-minute mark. Sea Gull forward
Yumi Kim (Odenton, MD/Meade) cut into the middle of the circle from the near wing and fired a shot on goal, but TCNJ keeper
Amanda Krause (Richboro, PA/Council Rock North) denied the bid making the save.
Â
Krause finished with a pair of saves as she registered her fourth shutout of the season.
Â
Salisbury goalie
Rachel Clewer (Elkton, MD/North East) finished with eight saves.
Â
The Lions are back on the field for a road contest on Tuesday, October 1, heading to Manhattanville College for a 7 p.m. start. Salisbury will face another New Jersey Athletic Conference school in Rowan University when the Profs visit Maryland on October 2.
