Wayne, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's swimming and diving team delivered another impressive dual meet performance as they defeated William Paterson University 180-109 on Saturday afternoon in Wayne, NJ.
The Lions (5-2) are one victory away from their sixth consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference championship. They will take on Rowan University next Saturday to determine who captures the 2013-14 NJAC title.
Senior
Stephen Tarnowski (Ramstein, Germany/Ramstein American) had a banner day in the lanes, winning a pair of individual events and contributing to the first-place finish in the 200-medley relay event. Tarnowski touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.58. He also took top honors in the 200-butterfly, posting a finish of 2:00.13. Tarnowski joined
Jin Roh, freshmen
Andrew Nesbitt (Somerset, NJ/St. Joseph's), and rookie
Scott Vitabile (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) to post a winning time of 1:41.88 in the 200-medley relay race.
Vitabile enjoyed similar success, placing first in the 200-free and 100-fly. He registered the fastest time in the 200-free in 1:50.30 and won the 200-fly in 55.58.
Roh, a transfer student from Marist College, had a stellar debut in his first official meet as a Lion. He won the 100-backstroke event in 55.06 and 200-back in 2:02.31. Roh also took top honors in the 200-individual medley with a finish of 2:18.59.
In the 500-free, junior
James Milone (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) topped the field with a finish of 5:08.28. Nesbitt, freshman
Jason Ivins (Ewing, NJ/Notre Dame), and junior
Shane Tonery (Edison, NJ/St. Joseph's) also registered individual wins. Nesbitt won the 100-breaststroke (1:01.78), Tonery placed first in the 200-breast (2:22.90), and Ivins claimed the 50-free in 23.03.
Over in the diving well,
Daniel Tsinis (East Brunswick, NJ/Middlesex County) took top prize in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Tsinis posted scores of 314.25 in the 1-meter and 318.30 in the 3-meter to accumulate 18 total team points.
The dual meet against the Profs this Saturday is schedules to start at 2 p.m. in Packer Hall.
