A streaky first half closed with the Lions holding a 31-29 lead. Both offenses started quickly with TCNJ holding a 9-8 advantage. The Roadrunners went cold, however, missing 12 straight field goal attempts over a nine-minute span.
Ramapo did regain its shooting touch, scoring on four straight trips that included a pair of three-point field goals and a conventional three to close the gap to 24-19.
DeTulio was the key performer for TCNJ in the opening period. She scored the team's first five points and finished with 14 points in the first half. When the Roadrunners heated up offensively, DeTulio responded with back-to-back 3s to contain the visitor outburst.
A
Jackie Jerkovich (Secaucus, NJ/Academy of the Holy Angels) three-pointer followed by a layup from senior
Anna Fucci (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) shaved five more points off the Lions' advantage as they entered the break with a two-point lead.
Fucci knocked down three straight free throws to give the Roadrunners their first lead of the game, 35-34 at the 16:40 mark. Esposito erased it quickly, hitting a long 3-pointer off a West feed. The lead would exchange hands 5 times over the next nine minutes as Roddy drained a long jumper to put TCNJ up 46-45 with 8:45 to play.
Down by three points, Donadio hit a baseline jumper to pull within a point, but DeTulio hit another big shot from behind the arc to smother the momentum.
Ramapo would not go down easy as Donadio hit another jump-shot to tie the contest at 57 with 2:22 remaining. She drove the lane and scooped in a layup on the ensuing possession to edge ahead 59-57. Roddy answered with a three-point field goal. A pair of successful free throws by junior
Kylie O'Donnell (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) and DeTulio sealed TCNJ's first triumph of 2014.
The Lions return to the hardwood on Wednesday evening when they visit Rowan University for an 8 p.m. match-up. Ramapo visits Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
