Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey field hockey team notched two goals in each half to erase an early deficit and come away with a 4-1 win over Ursinus College on Thursday in a showdown of teams ranked in the top five.
 
The fourth-ranked Lions moved to 14-1 on the season with their sixth straight victory. The fifth-ranked Bears saw their saw their eight-game win streak snapped to fall to 11-2.
 
The Bears got the early jump on the Lions scoring 3:14 into the contest, Junior 
Danielle Stong (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area Senior) redirected a crossing pass from junior 
Samantha Macchio (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow).
 
TCNJ responded 6:31 later when sophomore 
Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) picked up a loose ball and deposited it into the Ursinus net to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Less than 10 minutes later, sophomore 
Danielle Andreula (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) popped in a rebound on a shot taken by senior 
Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) that gave the hosts the lead for good.
 
The Lions added the only two goals in the second half with sophomore 
Lexi Smith (Florence, NJ/Florence Twp.) blasting in a hard shot to make it 3-1 and then senior 
Lindsey Hatch (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) capped things off in the closing minutes punching in a feed from Healy.
 
While TCNJ's offense was rolling, sophomore goalie 
Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) made a career-high 12 saves, including a sprawling save to deny 
Devin Brakel (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro North) on a short breakaway.
 
For the Bears, junior goalie 
Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) collected 10 saves, while 
Jordan Miller (Stevens, PA/Cocalico Senior) and 
Rachel Zane (Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) each made defensive saves.
 
TCNJ returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, October 21 when the Lions host William Paterson University at 7:30 p.m.
