Lions drop spring opener to Babson

Andrew Grossman was part of the winning third doubles team.
Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule hosting Babson College, but it was the visiting Beavers that netted a win on Saturday as they defeated the Lions, 6-3.
 
The loss dropped TCNJ to 0-1, while Babson is 1-2.
 
The Lions started the match taking two of the three available points winning in the first and third positions. The top pairing of senior Howard Telson (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) and sophomore Pierce Cooper (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) earned an 8-5 win with that victory being Telson's 50th career win in doubles play. At third doubles, the duo of senior Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and junior Andrew Grossman (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) won by the score of 8-6.
 
Babson then picked up five points in singles, with Cooper earning a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the second slot.
 
TCNJ is back on the court for a pair of matches of nest weekend, hosting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on March 1 and Washington College on March 2.
