Madison, NJ... The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team shrugged off the bitter cold temperatures and did the same to FDU-Florham in the season opener as the Lions posted a 19-3 road win on Saturday.

The seventh-ranked Lions open the season at 1-0, while the loss drops the Devils to 0-2.

TCNJ scored the first three goals of the game with senior
Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.), senior
Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington), and junior
Ava Fitzgerald (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) each scoring for a 3-0 lead.

After the hosts got on the board, the Lions then rattled off the next six before the Devils scored in the final three minutes to make it a 9-2 game at the break.

The teams traded goals early in the second half, but TCNJ cruised the rest of the way scoring the game's final nine goals.

Fitzgerald led all players with six goals in the game, while Pigott scored four times and assisted on two others. Junior
Erin Waller (Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) had a three-point game with two goals and an assist.

In goal for the Lions, freshman
Catherine Killian (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) earned the win playing the opening half, while classmate
Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) was between the pipes for the final 30 minutes.

TCNJ will have a week off before its home opener when they host Messiah College on Saturday, March 8. Game time in Lions' Stadium is 1 p.m.
