Mahwah, NJ... The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team scored six times in less than six minutes to start the game and set the tone as the Lions remained perfect with a lopsided 19-0 win at Ramapo College on Tuesday.
Â
TCNJ, which jumped up spot in the national poll this week to fourth, is 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 3-2 overall and it was their conference opener.
Â
The win was also the second straight shutout for the Lions as they extended their streak of not allowing a goal to 130:32. They also haven't allowed a shot in the past two games.
Â
TCNJ wasted no time in getting the lead scoring 1:45 into the contest when junior
Ava Fitzgerald (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) opened the scoring. Sophomore
Cortney Natalicchio (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) scored less than a minute later before junior
Kendal Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and Fitzgerald quickly increased the lead to 4-0 scoring nine seconds apart.
Â
The next pair of goals for the Lions came almost as fast as freshman
Megan Donnelly (Sewell, NJ/Clearview) and senior
Jen Garavente (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) scored back-to-back goals separated by 14 seconds. Those goals made it a 6-0.
Â
The Lions would double that lead by the end of the half with senior
Lauren Pigott (Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) and Fitzgerald each scoring two of those six and junior
Erin Waller (Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) and Garavente the other two.
Â
TCNJ added seven goals in the second half with Pigott at Fitzgerald leading the charge with two goals apiece.
Â
Freshman
Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) and classmate
Catherine Killian (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) each played in half to share the shutout.
Â
Fitzgerald led all players with six goals, while Pigott scored four times and set up two others. Garavente posted a game-high eight points on three goals and five assists and Borup contributed two goals and an assist.
Â
The Lions will have a key match-up on Friday at 6 p.m. in Lions' Stadium when the team hosts seventh-ranked Franklin & Marshall College in a non-conference game.
