Howard Telson (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) joined the 100-win club on Sunday as he helped The College of New Jersey men's tennis team pick up an 8-1 victory over visiting Ithaca College.
Telson got his 100
th combined win in doubles play as he paired with sophomore
Pierce Cooper (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) in the first position and the duo posted an 8-3 win. That win was his 59
th in doubles play, which ties him for sixth on the program's all-time wins list.
The senior later added his 101
st win with a 6-2, 6-0 decision at first singles.
In addition to the win at first doubles, the Lions claimed the other two spots as well with the second team of freshman
Mike Stanley (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) and sophomore
Dan Presuto (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) winning 8-3, while the third team of senior
Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and junior
Andrew Grossman (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) played extra tennis. The tandem of Allen and Grossman won their match 9-8 (8-6).
Cooper followed Telson in the second singles position with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while the Lions wrapped up the victory with wins in the final three spots. Coming away on top in their matches in order were Stanley,
Ezra Klemow (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), and Grossman. Kelmow's won his match in exciting fashion, outlasting his Ithaca counterpart by the scores of 6-3, 5-7, 11-9.
The win bumped TCNJ's record up to 8-5.
