Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season on a winning note as the Lions slipped past visiting Stevens Institute of Technology 5-4 on Wednesday.
The win boosted TCNJ to 10-5 on the season as they now will await the announcement of the field to the 2014 NCAA Division III Tournament.
The loss dropped the Ducks to 11-10.
Prior to the match, seniors
Howard Telson (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens) and
Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) were recognized for their contributions to the program during their careers.
The Lions claimed two points in doubles play with Telson and sophomore
Pierce Cooper (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) winning 8-2 in the first spot and the second pairing of freshman
Mike Stanley (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) and sophomore
Billy Buchbinder (Scotch Plains, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) posting an 8-5 victory.
Pierce, Stanley, and Buchbinder each then netted wins in singles to give the Lions their third straight victory.
