Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's tennis team earned a split in singles play against Franklin & Marshall College on Sunday, but the Diplomats gained the deciding point in doubles as they came away with a 5-4 win.
Franklin & Marshall (8-3) won at first and second doubles to take a 2-1 lead following that past of the match. At third doubles, the Lions (6-4) received an 8-6 victory from senior
Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and junior
Andrew Grossman (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley).
Sophomore
Pierce Cooper (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) had the longest match of the day as he went three sets and came away with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 10-7 victory in the second spot. Freshman
Mike Stanley (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) won 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 at fifth singles, while sophomore
Billy Buchbinder (Scotch Plains, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) secured a 6-1, 6-2 decision in the sixth spot.
Next up for the Lions is a match on Tuesday, April 8 when they host Ramapo College at 4 p.m.
