Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's tennis team got back in the win column on Tuesday as the Lions breezed past visiting Ramapo College, 9-0.
After dropping a close one-point decision in their last outing, the Lions continued their recent run as they have won seven of their last nine matches. Overall, TCNJ is 7-4 on the season.
The loss knocked Ramapo to 5-4.
The Lions raced to a 3-0 lead sweeping all three points from the Roadrunners in doubles play. The top pairing of senior
Howard Telson (Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) and sophomore
Pierce Cooper (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won by an 8-4 score, while the second team of freshman
Mike Stanley (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) and sophomore
Billy Buchbinder (Scotch Plains, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) posted a victory by that same score. The third tandem of senior
Gabe Allen (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and junior
Andrew Grossman (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) had an easier time in their match with an 8-1 triumph.
In singles, the Lions claimed all six points with Telson, Cooper, sophomore
Dan Presuto (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris), Allen, Stanley, and Buchbinder all winning in order.
The Lions have a pair of upcoming matches this weekend when they host Skidmore College on Saturday, April 12 and then Ithaca College a day later.
