Box Score 2 Camden, NJ… The College of New Jersey softball team suffered a pair of setbacks, falling to Rutgers University-Camden 6-2 and 9-4 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Tuesday.
The losses drop the Lions to 6-18 on the season, while the Scarlet Raptors improved to 13-6-1 and 6-2 in the conference. TCNJ will look to gain its first conference win this Saturday, April 12 when they take on Montclair State University in a twin-bill at Dr. June Walker Field at 1 p.m.
Game 1Rutgers-Camden 6 The College of New Jersey 2 The Scarlet Raptors took advantage of some shaky defense by the Lions and jumped out to an early lead in the opener. They tallied three runs in the first and another in the second, all of which were unearned.
Three hits and two errors in the fourth led to two more runs for RUC as they stretched the lead to 6-0.
TCNJ got on the board with a run in the fifth. Freshman
Olivia Fahr (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. She raced home when sophomore
Christine Desiderio (Babylon, NY/Babylon) singled to left field to make it a 6-1 game.
The same offensive combination led to another run in the seventh. Fahr doubled to lead off the inning and Desiderio chased her home with a base hit to left for the Lions' second run. But the Scarlet Raptors were able to record the final out to register their 12
th win of the season.
Game 2Rutgers-Camden 9 The College of New Jersey 4 A pair of runs in the third inning staked the Lions to a 2-0 lead in the nightcap. Freshman
Colleen Phelan (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional) stroked a two-run single to score seniors
Lindsey Williams (Roxbury, NJ/Roxbury) and
Kristen Lake (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central). Williams had singled and stole second and third before Lake walked and swiped second base.
RUC responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. With two runners on, sophomore
Lyndsay Day belted a three-run home run to center field to give the host a 3-2 advantage.
Three more runs on four hits in the fourth put the Scarlet Raptors in command as Day tacked on a run-scoring single for her fourth RBI of the game.
TCNJ got a run back in the sixth as Williams lined a base hit to right-center to plate freshman
Rachel Cipolla (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial). But Rutgers-Camden answered with three more in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.

Brittany Scott pitched complete games in both victories, raising her season record to 13-5.
