Lions open NJAC play with 3-0 triumph

Pomona, NJ... The College of New Jersey field hockey team scored three times in the second half to break open a tie game and post a 3-0 road win at Stockton University on Saturday in the conference opener for both teams.

Top-ranked TCNJ remains undefeated on the season at 9-0 and extended its winning streak to 24 straight.

The loss put the Ospreys at 2-7.

After a scoreless opening period, the Lions grabbed the lead 3:55 into the new half when freshman Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) scored.

TCNJ later added to that lead scoring twice in a span of 33 seconds.  Senior Alicia Wagner (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) got the first of those by tipping in a shot by junior Lexi Smith (Florence, NJ/Florence Twp.) and Morrison tacked on the second when she punched in her own rebound. Those goals came 16:20 and 17:13 into the period.

Morrison's two goals on the day gave her in the team's three wins this week.

The Lions dominated on both ends of the field holding a decisive 24-1 edge in shots, while preventing any of Stockton's shots from reaching the cage.

TCNJ's Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) recorded her second solo shutout of the season without having to face a shot.

The Lions are home on Tuesday, October 6 for a non-conference game against Eastern University at 7:30 p.m. in Lions Stadium.
