Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Top-ranked TCNJ grounds #20 Eastern

Ewing, NJ... A pair of teams riding growing winning streaks met on Tuesday at Lions Stadium with The College of New Jersey field hockey team being the program extending its string of consecutive wins. The Lions posted a 6-0 triumph over Eastern University to remain undefeated on the season.

Top-ranked TCNJ is now 10-0 on the year and have won 25 straight games dating back to last season. The 20th-ranked Eagles fell to 8-2 as they started the night having won eight straight. They hadn't lost in more than a month as that defeat came in the season opener.

The Lions needed only 7:08 to get on the scoreboard as junior Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) opened the scoring. Douglas ran onto a nice pass from classmate Alexa Magnotta (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) and swept it in.

Douglas scored again minutes later, while TCNJ tacked on two more in the final minutes of the period. Freshman Taylor Barrett (Neshanic Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central) made it 3-0 and senior Alicia Wagner (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) made it a four-goal difference at the break. Those goals came 54 seconds apart.

TCNJ struck early again in the second half when Wagner picked up her second of the game just 1:20 into the period. Barrett garnered an assist on the play.

Junior Lexi Smith (Florence, NJ/Florence Twp.) closed out the scoring with an unassisted tally with 19:04 in the contest.

TCNJ's Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) and Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) combined on the shutout, which was the team's sixth of the season.

The Lions have a big New Jersey Athletic Conference on Friday as they head to fifth-ranked Montclair State University. Game time with the Red Hawks is 7 p.m.
