Montclair, NJ... The College of New Jersey field hockey team made a statement on Friday night as the top-ranked Lions traveled to fifth-ranked Montclair State University and dealt the Red Hawks a 5-0 defeat on the their home field.

The win kept the Lions undefeated on the season at 11-0 and they a 2-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play. It also extended TCNJ's winning streak to 26 straight.

While the Lions took care of things on the offensive end of the field with two goals in the first half and three more in the second, the team's defense also did its part. They limited the hosts to only two shots and neither of them found their way on goal.

The loss was the first in league play for Montclair as they fell to 2-1 and they are 11-2 overall.

TCNJ grabbed the early lead an even 10 minutes into the game when junior
Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) notched her 12
th goal of the season. That came with an assist from junior
Lexi Smith (Florence, NJ/Florence Twp.).Â
The Lions doubled that lead in the closing minutes of the half as freshman
Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) scored unassisted. That goal came with 1:13 left before the break.

Morrison opened the scoring in the second half, making it a 3-0 TCNJ lead 6:25 into the new period. That goal was the sixth of the season for the forward with each of those coming in the last five games.

Douglas added her 13
th goal of the season a minute later, boasting the lead to 4-0 with an assist from senior
Alicia Wagner (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley). With her two goals against the Red Hawks, Douglas is closing in on the 100-point mark as she has 97 in 55 career games. Â

The Lions added one final with three seconds remaining as sophomore
Taylor Nesnay (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) picked up her first of the season.

Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) benefitted from the banner defensive effort as she got the shutout without having to make a save.

The Lions continue NJAC play on Tuesday, October 13 when they return home to face Ramapo College at 7:30 p.m.
