Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's tennis team claimed two-out-of-three points in doubles play, but Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute countered with four wins in singles action to pull out a 5-4 win over the Lions on Saturday.

The loss was the first of the young season for TCNJ (1-1), while the Engineers have won both of their dual meets.

The Lions had a good start winning the top two spots in doubles. Juniors
Pierce Cooper (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and
Billy Buchbinder (Scotch Plains, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) doubled up their counterparts 8-4, and the second team of sophomore
Jack August (Medford, NJ/Home Schooled) and sophomore
Mike Stanley (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) earned an 8-5 triumph.

August picked up his second win of the day at second singles, winning 6-2, 7-5. The other win for TCNJ came in the fifth position with freshman
Sean Fernandez (Emerson, NJ/Bergen Catholic) outlasting his opponent 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

TCNJ is back on the court on Wednesday, March 4 when they host Ramapo College at 2:30 p.m.
