Game Recap: Lacrosse |

TCNJ scores early and often in lopsided win

St. Davids, PA… Five goals in the first four minutes of the game was more than enough offense for The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team as the Lions cruised past Eastern University 17-1 on Saturday.

The win was the second of the week for TCNJ, which is ranked 14th, as they moved to 5-2 on the season. The loss dropped the Eagles to 3-7.

The Lions were effective on both ends of the field, tying a season best in both goals scored and fewest goals allowed. The defense also limited the Eagles to only three shots, all of which came in the second half.

Senior Kendal Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) had a big game with four goals and four assists and classmate Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) had a season-best seven points on two goals and five assists. Senior Ava Fitzgerald (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) contributed with four goals and the trio of junior Cortney Natalicchio (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) sophomore Mia Blackman (Arlington, VA/Field School) and freshman Amanda Muller (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) each tallied twice.

Sophomore goalie Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) made one save for her fifth win of the season.

The Lions scored twice in the opening minute of the game with Borup getting the game's initial goal 25 seconds in. Blackman tallied 31 seconds later with Borup setting up that goal.

TCNJ picked up two more goals minutes later as Fitzgerald and Muller found the back of the net 50 seconds apart.  Those goals pushed the lead to 4-0.

Natalicchio made it 5-0 just 3:52 into the game as the Lions would then go on to hold a sizeable 12-0 lead at the half.

TCNJ added five more goals in the second half before the Eagles spoiled the shutout in the closing seconds. Freshman Emily Kratz (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) scored one of those goals for the Lions, which was the first of her collegiate career.

Next up for TCNJ is a non-conference game against Manhattanville College on Tuesday, March 31 at 7 p.m.
