Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's tennis team picked up its fourth straight win as the Lions doubled up the University of Rochester 6-3 on Sunday.
 
The win put TCNJ at 5-1 on the spring and they will look to add to that streak on Wednesday, April 1 when they host New York University at 3 p.m.
 
The teams were deadlocked at 3-3 with freshman Sean Fernandez (Emerson, NJ/Bergen Catholic) scoring the deciding victory at fifth singles. He won his match by the scores of 6-4, 6-2. Junior Pierce Cooper (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) won 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at the top singles position, while freshman of Chris D'Agostino (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) collected a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the third spot. Sophomore Mike Stanley (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) had the most exciting match at sixth singles, winning in three sets. He won the first set 6-3 and then fell by that same score in the middle frame    before outlasting his opponent 15-13 in the third.
 
Cooper and junior Billy Buchbinder (Scotch Plains, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) won 8-4 at first doubles and the second team of Stanley and sophomore Jack August (Medford, NJ/Home Schooled) came away with a victory by that same score in the second spot. That win was August's 50th career combined victory.
