Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's tennis team pushed its winning streak to five straight as the Lions handled New York University 6-3 on Wednesday.
 
The victory lifted TCNJ's record to 6-1 on the season and they will look to add to that growing streak tomorrow when they host Drew University.
 
The Lions picked up two points in doubles play and secured the win by racking up six more in singles action. Sophomore Mike Stanley (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) had the clinching match from the sixth singles spot as he outlasted his opponent 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
 
Junior Pierce Cooper (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) added a win at first singles (4-6, 6-1, 6-2) and sophomore Jack August (Medford, NJ/Home Schooled) followed with a triumph in the second slot (6-2, 6-2). The other win in singles for TCNJ came in the fourth position as freshman Chris D'Agostino (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) won the longest match of the day. He won by the scores of 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
 
The top two doubles teams posted wins with the top pairing of Cooper and Billy Buchbinder (Scotch Plains, NJ/Wardlaw-Hartridge) getting the first and August and Stanley the other from the second spot. Both teams won by 8-3 scores.
