TCNJ holds off Stevens, 7-5

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team posted a remained perfect at home this season as the Lions held off a pesky Stevens Institute of Technology 7-5 on Thursday.
 
The win put 14th-ranked TCNJ at 9-2 on the year and they have won all five of its games in Lions Stadium.
 
The loss snapped the Ducks' eight-game winning streak as they fell to 8-2.
 
Defense dominated the first half with the teams combining for six goals. Stevens got the first two goals of the period, with both of them coming in the opening 3:33.
 
TCNJ scored the next three goals with senior Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) getting the hosts on the board on a feed from classmate Kendal Borup (Plainsboro, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South).
 
Borup then tied the game at 2-2 with 5:17 left before the half and gave the Lions their first lead just over three minutes later with her second of the game.
 
The Ducks knotted the game at 3-3 in the final minute of the period with Julianna Ricci getting the goal with 52.8 seconds left.
 
TCNJ started the second half with a pair of goals with Borup and senior Ava Fitzgerald (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) giving the hosts a 5-3 lead.
 
The teams then traded goals until the score was 7-5. Stevens thought they cut the difference to 7-6 with 1:18 left in the game, but the goal was waved off due to an illegal stick.
 
The Lions then took over possession and ran out the remaining time to secure the win.
 
Borup paced TCNJ with four goals and two assists, while freshman Amanda Muller (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) had one goal and one assist.
 
Sophomore keeper Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) earned the win for the Lions as she registered five saves.
Defender Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) led TCNJ with three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
 
TCNJ faces another tough test on Sunday, April 12 when they head to sixth-ranked Salisbury University for a 2 p.m. start.
