Eagles hold off TCNJ in NCAAs

Fredericksburg, VA… The College of New Jersey men's tennis team fell to the University of Mary Washington in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday as the host Eagles moved on with a 5-2 victory.
 
That brought an end to another very successful season for the Lions as they went 12-4. The outlook is bright for TCNJ as they will bring back their entire starting line up next season.
 
Mary Washington (21-5) advances to the third round where they will take on Trinity (TX) University, which defeated Wilkes University, 5-0.
 
The Lions played tough in doubles coming away with a win in the second spot, but fell in the first and third slots by 8-4 scores. The team of sophomores Jack August (Medford, NJ/Home Schooled) and Mike Stanley (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) won 8-3 as the finished the season with a team-leading 13 victories in doubles play.
 
The Eagles pushed the lead to 4-1, earning the first two wins in singles, but August posted a 7-6, 6-1 triumph to make it a two-point difference.
 
Mary Washington then netted the fifth and deciding point to end the match.
