Lions ring in 2016 with a pair of victories

Antonio Mancella won by technical and major decisions on Sunday.
Hoboken, NJ …The College of New Jersey wrestling team remained perfect in dual meets as they registered blowout victories over Trinity College (CT) and Hunter College on Sunday afternoon in Hoboken, NJ.
 
The Lions (7-0) took down Trinity by a score of 46-3 before bouncing Hunter 48-4. They racked up seven pins in the two matches, four technical falls, and three major decisions. The matches were hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology.
 
Junior Nick Herring (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) had a banner day, pinning Bantam John Davis and Hunter's Declan Gray. Classmate Dan Wojtaszek (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) also enjoyed a dominant day on the mats. He won his opening bout via pin and then mounted a technical decision over Hawks' Maximilian Garkusha.
 
Senior Doug Hamann (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) and sophomore Ryan Budzek (Point Pleasant Boro, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro) also flourished. Each earned a victory by technical decision in the opener, and returned to collect pins against Hunter. Budzek won by fall over Davi Naupari at 5:23, while Hamann pinned Nick Brutus in 2:10.
 
TCNJ sophomore James Goldschmidt (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) netted a big win over Hawk Jaydon Rice, outscoring the senior 7-3. Goldschmidt also won via fall against Trinity's Joe Penna at 133 pounds. Senior Antonio Mancella (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) defeated his opponents by a combined score of 27-1 at 157 pounds.
 
The Lions return to action when they compete in the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College next Friday and Saturday.
