Springfield, MA …The College of New Jersey wrestling team capped a solid weekend of competition by defeating Springfield College 28-15 on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Lions raised their season record to 16-2 after going 2-1 at the METRO New England Duals on Saturday.
 
The match opened with a pair of forfeits at 197 and 285 (injury forfeit) before Luis Rivera (Landisville, NJ/Buena) posted a major decision at 125. Sophomore Ryan Budzek (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro), currently ranked sixth at 141, tacked on three more points with a hard-fought 3-1 decision over Patrick Ferzaco.
 
After a pair of losses by decision, the Lions trailed 15-13 but roared back with three straight wins. Senior Joe Paton (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) muscled out a 7-5 decision over Ryan Harty to put TCNJ back in front 16-15. A forfeit at 174 stretched the lead to 22-15 and junior Dan Wojtaszek (Brick, NJ/Brick Twp) punctuated the victory with a pin at 4:12 of the bout.
 
TCNJ returns home for its next match, hosting Wilkes University this Friday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Packer Hall.
