Ewing, N.J. … The College of New Jersey field hockey team welcomed #7 Ursinus College to Lions Stadium tonight and fought hard for a 1-0 overtime victory. TCNJ now holds an overall record of 9-3.
Senior
Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) scored the game winner during the overtime period to give TCNJ the thrilling win.
The tenth ranked Lions outshot the Bears 5-1 in the first half, but were unable to score so the game remained scoreless heading into halftime.
TCNJ continued to battle offensively, but the Ursinus defense stepped up to the plate to stop their advances on net. Neither team was able to score in the second half, although the Lions did have two corner opportunities after time expired that created several good shots that just missed the net.
Six minutes into the overtime period, Douglas netted the game winner. She shot the ball, collected the rebound off the goalie, and reverse swept the ball in to snap the scoreless tie and set off an exhuberant celebration.
Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) got the start in net and made three saves throughout the game.
The Lions are back in action on Saturday, October 15 when they travel to Ramapo College. The NJAC contest is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.
