Ewing, N.J. … The College of New Jersey field hockey team welcomed Albright College to Lions Stadium tonight and came away with a 7-1 win to cap off the senior night celebrations. The senior class contributed two goals, one assist and one goalkeeper win.
The Lions got on the board first, six minutes into the game on a goal from freshman
Cayla Andrews (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown). She shot the ball up and over the goalie on a rebound.
Senior
Lexi Smith (Florence, NJ/Florence Township) netted her 16th goal of the season when she dribbled into the center of the circle and reverse swept the ball into the top right hand side of the goal.
Jackie Schwartz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) recorded TCNJ's third goal of the game. On a corner play, Smith received the ball and sent it to Schwartz, who then fired a shot past the goalie.Â
Less than one minute later,
Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) earned her 16th tally of the season. A hard shot from outside the circle ricocheted off the post and Douglas was waiting to tap it into the net.
The final goal of the first half came from
Taylor Barrett (Neshanic Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central). Schwartz crossed the ball to Barrett on the left post for the Lions fifth goal of the game. Â
Two minutes into the second half, Albright dashed the shutout attempt when they tallied a goal of their own from Amanda Long.
TCNJ answered with a goal from
Sidney Padilla (Suffern, NY/Suffern). Schwartz crossed the ball to the right post and Padilla deflected it in.
Barrett netted her second goal of the game and season when she dribbled into the circle, drilled a shot that hit the inside of the post and continued into the net.
Senior goaltender
