Double header showdown with Rowan Wednesday night

Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey will host a New Jersey Athletic Conference soccer double header against rival Rowan University on Wednesday night that should be a night to remember.

Women's game: TCNJ (14-0-1, 8-0 NJAC) vs. Rowan (15-0-1, 7-0-1 NJAC) at 6 p.m. in Lions Stadium

Men's game: TCNJ (8-7-2, 4-3-1 NJAC) vs. Rowan (14-1-1, 6-1-1 NJAC) at 8:15 p.m. in Lions Stadium

The opening match pits a pair of undefeated teams by vying for the regular season conference championship on the final day of the season. The TCNJ women's team is ranked fifth nationally in the latest NSCAA Division III poll and owns a 14-0-1 record, 8-0 in the NJAC. The 10th-ranked Rowan women's team is 15-0-1 and 7-0-1 in the conference. A win or tie by the Lions earns them the top seed in the 2016 NJAC Championship Tournament and home-field advantage throughout. A win by the Profs would give them the top spot entering the post-season.

Game-time is slated for 6 p.m. in Lions Stadium.

The nightcap will feature the men's game scheduled for 8:15 p.m. that also carries post-season implications. TCNJ is currently tied for third place with 13 points. The conference standings are packed so tight that the Lions (8-7-2) could finish in third place and host the opening round tournament game this Saturday, or drop down to seventh and miss the post-season altogether. Only three points presently separates third from seventh place and a full round of NJAC contests tomorrow night will determine a myriad of potential outcomes. (A win is worth three points and a tie is worth a single point.) TCNJ faces Rowan, who is 14-1-1 this season and already clinched a first-round bye in the tourney. They are hoping to catch Rutgers-Newark and overtake the top spot to garner home-field advantage throughout. The Lions clinch a playoff berth with a tie and scale the standings with a win.

Both TCNJ squads will also celebrate senior night. Seven players on the women's team and six on the men's side will play their final regular season home game on campus. A pregame ceremony will honor the women's seniors, while the men will be touted at halftime of their match.

Students who need a break from the books should come out for an exciting night of college soccer in Lions Stadium. Admissions is free, but the experience should be priceless.
