Winter Haven, Fla … The bats remained red hot for The College of New Jersey baseball team as they routed UMass-Dartmouth 20-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.

The Lions put up five runs in the first, four in the second, two in the third, five in the fourth, and four more in fifth to move to 6-1 on the season. The offense produced 20 hits from 10 different players that included seven extra base hits.

Sophomore right-hander
Brandon Zachary (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) went six innings and struck out 10 for his first collegiate win on the mound.

CJ Gearhart (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) went 4-for-5 with four RBI and classmate
Alex Christian (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) drove in five to lead an offense that is averaging more than 11 runs per game and batting .391 as a team through seven games.

Garen Turner (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley) added to his RBI total with four more by going 3-for-5 with a triple and sophomore
Ryan Fearon (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove) had four hits and scored four times.
Zach Shindler (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) continued to produce, going 2-for-2 and crossing home plate four times in the game.

The hitters were the story of the day, but the pitching was extremely efficient. Zachary scattered four hits and walked just two. Freshman
Zac DeRocco (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown South) toed the rubber for the first time and pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four in his debut. Junior
Patrick McCarthy (Allentown, NJ/Allentown) tossed a perfect ninth inning and also recorded a strikeout.

John Rizzi (Long Hill, NJ/Watchung Hills) singled, scored three more time, and swiped a pair of bases. He's now scored 15 runs this season from the leadoff spot and is a perfect 10-for-10 in stolen bases. Sophomore
Mike Follet (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had a single and a double, while sophomore
Steve Bucci (Washington Twp, NJ/Washington) and
Tommy McCarthy (Allentown, NJ/Allentown) also registered hits in their lone plate appearance.
