Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey completed its series sweep of Rowan University with an 8-3 victory on Friday afternoon in George Ackerman Park.
 
The Lions raised their season record to 21-4 and are now 6-2 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play. The Profs fell to 14-12 overall and 3-3 in the NJAC.
 
Senior Eric Teesdale (Stratford, NJ/Sterling) earned the mound decision, leading TCNJ to its seventh consecutive win. The Lions registered eight hits in the game, and also took advantage of four errors and five free passes to aid their offense.
 
TCNJ took an early lead, putting up two runs in the second. Senior Garen Turner (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley) lined a single to left to lead off the inning to second on a ground ball and then stole third. Junior Alex Christian (Milltown, NJ/Spotswood) then doubled over the left fielder's head to score Turner. Junior Ben Varone (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) ripped a two-out single to left and Christian scored.
 
Rowan rallied in the third to take a 3-2 lead. Monny Strickland drove a two-run double to the gap to tie the game, 2-2. Bret Phillips followed with a single to left-center to score Strickland and the Profs held a one-run advantage.
 
TCNJ quickly responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame. They loaded the bases, and with two outs, Christian chopped a ball to third that was misplayed allowing John Rizzi (Long Hill, NJ/Watchung Hills) to score. Junior CJ Gearhart (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) took advantage of the extra out with a two-run single to left-center to regain the lead at 5-3.
 
Rizzi ignited another inning with a leadoff single to left in the sixth. He stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. Roberts then delivered a base hit to center to score Rizzi. Turner then sent the first pitch he saw to the left-center field fence to plate Roberts.
 
Teesdale was effective for six-plus inning, earning his second win of the season. He scattered six hits, walked two, and struck out three. Senior Joe Dilorenzo (West Orange, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) came on in the seventh and pitched a scoreless eight. He recorded two outs in the ninth before sophomore Matt Curry (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) k
 
Turner finished with two hits, while Gearhart drove in a pair. Rizzi stole three bases in the game, raising his season total to 28. He also scored twice in the win.
 
Matt Jolly and Bret Phillips each finished with two hits for Rowan.
 
The Lions continue their conference schedule tomorrow when they visit New Jersey City University for a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m.
