Box Score 2 Ewing, N.J. … The College of New Jersey softball team shift to 20-13 overall and 7-5 in NJAC play after dropping a doubleheader to Stockton University this afternoon. Although the Lions had the lead for the majority of the first game, they ended up falling by a score of 8-2. In the second game, TCNJ attempted a rally late in the seventh but fell just short and lost 2-1.

Game 1: TCNJ 2, Stockton 8

TCNJ came out hot in their first at bat, getting on the board with two runs.
Kristen Fitzsimmons (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) got on base and
Deanna Utter (Byram, NJ/Lenape Valley Regional) got a hit to left center to drive her home.
Gaby Bennett (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) then hit a double to left center to allow Utter to score.

In the top of the second the Ospreys cut that lead in half when Holly Arentowicz hit a homerun.

The game remained 2-1 until the top of the seventh inning when Stockton rallied for a seven run inning to win the game.

Sam Platt (Cedar Grove, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy) pitched six and one third innings, striking out three batters.
Ashtin Helmer (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) came in for relief to close out the game.

Offensively,
Jess McGuire (Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) went 2-for-3 from the plate, while Utter and Bennett each went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Game 2: TCNJ 1, Stockton 2

Stockton got an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and kept that lead up until the seventh inning.

TCNJ attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh but ended up one run short.
Â
Utter walked to get things started and then Bennett hit a single to right field to advance the runner.
Jess Santelli (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) blasted a double to center field to send Utter home. Unfortunately, Bennett was picked off at home plate as she attempted to score the tying run.

Katie Hourihan (Neptune, NJ/Neptune) got the start on the mound and pitched one full inning.
Sara Bielamowicz (Lawrence Township, NJ/Lawrence) came in during the second inning and pitched the remainder of the game. She struck out two while allowing only three hits.

The Lions return to action on April 23 when they travel to Kean University for a conference doubleheader. Game one is slated for a 1 p.m. start with the second to follow at 3 p.m.
