TCNJ charges past Stockton

By Julie Kayzerman '16

Pomona, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team played through stormy weather after waiting out an hour-long lightning delay to win their eighth-straight victory against Stockton University, 10-1, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up in Pomona, NJ.

The second-ranked Lions improve to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the NJAC, while the Ospreys fell to 12-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

It only took the college 6:54 to pump in four goals against the Ospreys. Senior attacker Cortney Natalicchio (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) notched two of those goals and assisted sophomore Amanda Muller (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough). Sophomore attacker Emily Kratz (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) collected the other point on a free position shot and junior Mia Blackman (Arlington, VA/Field School) recorded an assist on one of Natalicchio's tallies.

The Osprey's defense held the Lion's relentless offense in check until Muller netted the fifth goal at 14:38, forcing a Stockton timeout.

Stockton goalie Mary Stornes came up big after that, staving off the Lions' attack for about 14 minutes with four stops until Blackman drove in another with 2:40 remaining in the half to close it out, 6-0.

The Ospreys came out hard after the intermission, scoring first as freshman attacker Sarah Frankovic snuck one into the Lion's goal at the seven-minute mark.

However, senior attacker Megan Devlin (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) quickly responded, scoring a goal at 9:29 off an assist from graduate student Erin Waller (Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) to stretch the lead to 7-1.

Freshman midfielder Erin Harvey (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Waller and Devlin each added goals to complete the Lion's 10-1 triumph.

Sophomore Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) led a sting TCNJ defense and picked up four groundballs, while causing four turnovers. The Osprey's Stornes had an impressive effort in net with 12 saves.

The Lions finish out their regular season on Saturday, April 30 against NJAC opponent Kean University (12-3) in Lion's Stadium at 1 p.m.
