By Julie Kayzerman '16Hoboken, NJ ... The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team (9-1) notched their ninth win this season with a 9-2 triumph over Stevens Institute of Technology (5-5) on Tuesday night in Hoboken, NJ.
The third-ranked Lions led the game 5-2 at the half, completing the defeat by outshooting the Ducks, 17-6 throughout the match.
Although the college gave up an early goal to Steven's Erika Wilcox just 3:19 into the contest, junior attacker
Mia Blackman (Arlington, VA/Field School) capitalized on a pass from senior attacker
Cortney Natalicchio (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) to tie up the score, 1-1 at 8:28 in the first.
About two minutes later, Natalicchio took matters into her own hands, netting one in past Steven's goalie Stephanie Schnelzer on a free position shot to put the Lions ahead.
But the lead didn't last long as Wilcox struck again for the Ducks with equalizer just 20 seconds later to even up play at 2-2.
The Lions regrouped as sophomore
Emily Kratz (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) picked up a ground ball and took it all the way to goal, firing the ball into the net for the Lion's game-winning point, with 18:39 left in the half. TCNJ went on to score seven unanswered goals and shut out the Ducks the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) played a large role in keeping the Lions in check, causing six turnovers, picking up six ground balls and adding a goal to the scoreboard. Natalicchio dominated the offensive zone with two more goals for a hat trick and two assists. She currently owns 31 goals and 14 assists so far this season.
Freshman
Erin Harvey (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape), senior
Megan Devlin (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) and sophomore
Amanda Muller (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) added a goal apiece to seal the final score.
Freshman goalie
Miranda Chrone (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) played the full 60 minutes, earning the win without needing to make any saves in the night.
