Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Lions edged by Cavaliers, 4-3

Radnor, PA … A pair of second-half goals led Cabrini University to a 4-3 victory over The College of New Jersey field hockey team on Thursday night in Radnor, PA.

The third-ranked Lions (1-1) held a 3-2 halftime advantage, but the Cavalier defense was able to keep TCNJ off the board after the break en route to their second win of the 2016 season. Cabrini junior Jackie Neary tallied the equalizer in the 50th minute, before junior Maddy Worley knocked in the game-winner with less than 13 minutes to play.

In the opening period, the Lions received a tremendous offensive performance by senior Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA/Great Valley). With TCNJ trailing 2-0 10 minutes into the game, she rattled off three unanswered goals to put the Lions up by one at the intermission. Douglas scored her first goal of the night off a feed from junior Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington). Senior Lexi Smith (Florence, NJ/Florence Twp.) ripped a shot that rebounded to Douglas, who was in place to rifle home her second score at the 18:15 mark to tie the match.

Just under three minutes prior to halftime, Smith and sophomore Caroline Quinn (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) teamed up to feed Douglas off a penalty corner. She beat Cavalier goaltender Taylor Bookman to complete her hat trick.

Bookman had a busy night as TCNJ outshot Cabrini 24-9. She finished with seven saves in the contest. Lions' senior Kelly Schlupp (Holland, PA/Council Rock South) registered three stops as she split goalie duties with junior Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills).

TCNJ has a recent history of responding well to regular season losses. Last season, they fell 2-1 to Ursinus College and rode an eight-game win streak into the national semi-final match. In 2014, the Lions dropped a 3-1 decision to Salisbury University before winning 15 straight, capped by a victory in the national title game.

TCNJ returns to Lions Stadium this Saturday, September 10 when they take on Juniata College at 2 p.m.
