Fort Wayne, IN… The College of New Jersey wrestling team completed action at the NWCA National Duals Friday morning. Unfortunately for the Lions, the day's competition was short. One day after securing the program's 700
th victory and earning two victories, TCNJ dropped their first match to #15 Baldwin Wallace College 28-10. The loss put the Lions record at the NWCAs at 2-2 and removed the team from further action.
After falling behind 6-0,
Ryan Erwin (Milford, NJ / Delaware Valley) earned a decision victory at 133 to cut the Yellow Jackets lead in half. Following a decision victory by Baldwin Wallace which moved the score to 9-3,
Giancarlo Crivelli (Lavalette, NJ / Point Pleasant Beach) won by decision at 149 to once again pull TCNJ within 3 points.
Luke Balina (Long Branch, NJ / Long Branch) earned a major decision victory at 157 to give the Lions a 10-9 advantage, but the Yellow Jackets were victorious in each of the final five matches to secure the victory.
In other action from the Hoosier State, several student-athletes competed at the NUWAY College Open, headlined by
Nic Mele (Berkely Heights, NJ / Governor Livingston), who went 3-1 en route to a second place finish in the 125-pound weight class.
The Lions return to action next Friday, January 13 at 9:00 am when they are in action at the Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming College.
