Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Lions Win Fifth Straight

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team extended their season-long winning streak to five games Tuesday, defeating Ramapo College 6-0. The win is the Lions 24th consecutive regular season conference victory. The fourth-ranked Lions are now 9-2 and 4-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play. The Roadrunners fall to 0-3 in the conference and 5-9 overall.

The Lions struggled to finish early in the game as the Roadrunners turned away the first fourteen Lion shots. Eventually, TCNJ would break through with three and a half minutes remaining in the first half. Samantha Reed (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) received an entry pass from just outside the circle, the ball was tipped away slightly by a defender setting up a perfect backhand opportunity, that Reed finished for her second of the season.

Less than two minutes later, the Lions earned a penalty corner. After the initial attempt was stopped Kayla Peterson (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) found Cayla Andrews (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) away from the chaos in front for a goal that put TCNJ in front 2-0 going into halftime.

The Lions picked up right where they left off in the second half. Peterson scored off a corner just over three minutes into the second stanza. The Lions two leading goal scorers kept pace with one another as both Tori Tiefenthaler (Freehold, NJ/Biotechnology/Freehold Borough) and Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) each scored their tenth of the season. Morrison assisted Iris Schuck (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) for the game's final tally.

Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) and Madison Beaumont (Oxford, NJ/Belvidere) combined for the Lions fifth consecutive shutout. TCNJ out-shot Ramapo 32 to two.

The Lions will get a non-conference test this Saturday against Ursinus College. Game time is 12:00 PM.
