Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey football team (1-6, 1-5 NJAC) was unable to build of their win from a week ago falling to Kean University (3-4, 3-3 NAJC) 26-3 Saturday afternoon. The Lions celebrated homecoming weekend with the announcement of this year's homecoming king and queen, a new bronze lion statue to admire, and the official debut of the new Roscoe mascot.
On the field it was the one-two punch of Brian Matthews and Damian Corredor that TCNJ struggled with all game. Matthews rumbled for 157 yards on 18 carries and Corredor added 88 on 11 attempts. The Cougars out-rushed the Lions 247-40.
Kean got on the board midway through the first quarter marching 80-yards in 11 plays. The Cougars ran nearly seven minutes off the clock and quarterback Charles App found David Patterson for the first of three touchdown passes on the day. The Cougars followed that with an 18-play drive in the second quarter that ended with a field goal.
Following
Sam Jackson's (Linwood, NJ/Mainland Regional) fourth interception of the season, the Lions moved into the redzone on back-to-back
Trevor Osler (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) completions. First Osler found
Vincent Guckin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) for 19 yards, then hooked up with
Khani Glover (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) for 12 more. TCNJ would end the drive with a 36-yard field goal from
Zachary Pharo (Marlton, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep).
The Cougars would score 16 unanswered points in the second half on the two remaining App touchdown passes and a field goal.
The Lions defense was led by 10 tackles from
Jesse Streb (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and seven each from
Rob Agnoni (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee),
Max Busca (Medford, NJ/Shawnee), and
Shane Kelley (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee).
TCNJ now travels to Wayne, NJ to take on William Paterson University at 1:00 PM.
