Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Lions Shut Out Third Straight Opponent

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team showed off the firepower that made the squad the New Jersey Athletic Conference favorite Tuesday night. The fifth-ranked Lions (7-2, 2-0 NJAC) defeated Rowan University (6-5, 0-2 NJAC) by a final score of 5-0. The win is the Lions 22nd consecutive regular season conference win and ninth straight victory over the Profs.

Just under 10 minutes into the game Kayla Peterson (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) took a shot off a corner that beat the Prof net minder and hit off of a Rowan defender's foot to earn a penalty stroke. Cayla Andrews (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) calmly stepped up and found the back of the cage to provide the Lions with an early advantage.

With just over five minutes remaining in the first half, Andrews sliced through the defense and tricked the goalie with a backhand shot from 10 yards out. Sidney Padilla (Suffern, NY/Suffern) would score with just over a minute to go to put the Lions up 3-0 at halftime. Padilla was a terror on both sides of the ball, recording two defensive saves in the game.

Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) took over the second stanza, scoring twice to produce the final score. Samantha Reed (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) recorded her first collegiate assist on the game's final goal.

Reigning NJAC Defensive Player of the Week Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) made seven saves for her third consecutive shutout.

TCNJ out-shot Rowan 16-12.

The Lions will now travel to third-ranked Montclair State University. TCNJ will play their third game this season against a top five opponent. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
