Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Lions Capture Fourth Straight Shutout Win

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team earned a critical 3-0 win over third-ranked and previously unbeaten Montclair State University Saturday afternoon. The fifth-ranked Lions are now 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the highly competitive New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Red Hawks are 12-1 overall and 2-1 in the NJAC. Kean University is currently ranked 16th in the country and has yet to lose a game this season, but still has Montclair State and TCNJ on the schedule.

TCNJ snatched a quick lead just three and a half minutes into the game, when Tori Tiefenthaler (Freehold, NJ/Biotechnology/Freehold Borough) deflected a shot by Kayla Peterson (Cream Ridge, NJ/Allentown) into the back of the cage.

The Lions would extend the lead on a goal from Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT/Stonington) just over ten minutes later. Morrison would close out the scoring in the final ten minutes, deflecting a shot from Cayla Andrews (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) after a scramble on a penalty corner.

Reigning NJAC Defensive Player of the Week Christina Fabiano (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) made two saves for her fourth straight shutout.

TCNJ out-shot Ramapo 12 to four.

The Lions return home Tuesday night for a conference game against Ramapo College.
