Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey men's tennis team came up short in a spirited match against New York University on Wednesday afternoon in the Student Recreation Center.
The #40 Lions (7-2) swept the top three singles matches, but the #29 Violets rallied to take the final three to improve to 6-2 on the season.
TCNJ fell behind 2-1 in the doubles matches. Seniors
Jack August (Medford, NJ) and
Mike Stanley (Newtown, NJ/Council Rock North) delivered an 8-4 win at second doubles to get the Lions on the board. Sophomore
Mitchel Sanders (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) followed with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory at first singles and August won his match-up in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore
Omar Bokhari (Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsipanny) also won by a score of 7-5, 6-2 to put TCNJ one win away from a match triumph. But NYU battled back to capture the final three matches to steal the road win.
The Lions will be back in action this Saturday when they visit the University of Mary Washington for a match-up beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
