Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey men's tennis team continued its hot start to the spring season as they defeated Vassar College, 8-1 on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions moved to 3-0 on the season and swept the singles matches for the second consecutive day. The Brewers (5-3) pushed four matches to three sets, two of which went to tie-breaker, but they could not produce the outcome needed as they fell to TCNJ for the third straight season.

Sophomore Mitchel Sanders (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) clinched the win at first singles. He took the first set 6-1, but dropped the second 3-6.  Sanders rebounded to notch a hard-fought third set to seal the Lions third consecutive triumph.

Senior Jack August (Medford, NJ) had a solid day on the courts, winning his second singles match in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). He also joined Chris D'Agostino (Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) to garner an 8-6 win in doubles. D'Agostino also went 2-0 on the day with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory at fourth singles.

At third singles, Omar Bokhara (Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) posted a straight set win, discarding of Juan Felipe, 6-4, 6-4. It took Tim Gavornik (MIllington, NJ/Watchung Hills) and Mike Stanley (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) a tie- breaker set to earn their wins.

In the third doubles match, sophomore Matt Puig (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands) teamed up with Gavornik to register an 8-6 win.

The Lions will continue their home-stand next Saturday when they host Colby College at noon in the Student Recreation Center.Tennis Match Results
