Camden, NJ… The College of New Jersey lacrosse team put on a display of offensive and defensive magic when they visited Rutgers-Camden Tuesday night. With the 17-0 win, the top-ranked Lions improve to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in NJAC play. The Scarlet Raptors dropped to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
TCNJ took an early lead when Kathleen Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, NJ / Hunterdon Central) scored in the opening 2 minutes of play, her 15th straight game recording a goal. Less than 30 seconds later, Amanda Muller (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough) got on the scoreboard off of a feed from senior defender LeeAnn Bak (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan), her first career point. TCNJ continued their attack as Erin Harvey (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Lenape) and Muller scored back to back goals within just nine seconds of each other. The Lions' speed of play persisted throughout the half, as they outshot the Scarlet Raptors 19-0. Allie Gorman (Sicklerville, NJ / Washington Township) added one more goal taking TCNJ into the half with a 11-0 lead.
The Lions continued their scoring streak in the second half, adding six more goals to the scoreboard. Bak and freshman Caitlin Cauley (Delran, NJ / Delran) added their first collegiate goals on both of their first collegiate shots. Freshman Kristin Biche (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Bishop Eustace) posted a career high three goals while also collecting her first assist on a goal from Harvey. The Lions were unselfish as well, as 12 of TCNJ's 17 goals were assisted.
The defense of Bak, Ellie O'Neill (Collingswood, NJ / Collingswood), Brooke Lionetti (Malvern, Pa / Great Valley), and Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT / Stonington) was flawless in front of sophomore goal keeper Miranda Chrone (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) allowing only 1 shot all game. Freshman Alexa Natalicchio (New Egypt, NJ / Notre Dame) took over in goal for the second half and kept the clean sheet while adding 1 save on the night.
The Lions hit the road again this Saturday when they travel to Maryland to take on 11th ranked Salisbury University in a non-conference match up at 2:00 PM.
