Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey lacrosse team broke a 3-3 tie, score five consecutive goals to close out an 8-3 victory over Montclair State. The second ranked Lions improved to 7-1, 1-0 NJAC on the year, while the Red Hawks dropped to 7-3, 0-1 NJAC.
Mia Blackman (Arlington, VA / Field School) got the Lions on the board first when her shot that initially looked to be saved managed to cross the line for her 17
th goal of the season. The Red Hawks responded when Lindsay Lare scored to knot up the game.
Kathleen Jaeger (Whitehouse Station, NJ / Hunterdon Central) then scored on a free position attempt, her 14
th straight game with a goal, that Lare again countered as the teams entered the break even at 2-2.
With just under 17 minutes remaining
Jaclyn Douglas (Malvern, PA / Great Valley) weaved through three Montclair State defenders to once again put the Lions in front. For a third time Lare countered, the final coming on a free position attempt giving her 22 goals on the season.
TCNJ finally broke through for good with Blackman scoring her second of the game, followed by Kristin Biche (Mount Laurel, NJ / Bishop Eustace) scoring for the first time in her collegiate career.
Kasey Donoghue (Mount Laurel, NJ / Lenape) also added two goals during the run.
TCNJ out-shot Montclair State 29-12, but 13 saves by Red Hawk goalie Amanda Maguire and two hit posts by the Lions helped keep the game tight early.
Elizabeth Morrison (Stonington, CT / Stonington) caused three turnovers and scooped two ground balls to move in to fourth place in Lions history in career ground balls.
Miranda Chrone (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) made five saves and lowered her season goals against average to just 4.27.
The Lions now take to the road as they visit Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m.
