Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey men's tennis team laced up against Franklin and Marshall College on Sunday and battled its way to a 5-4 victory to capture their third straight win.
Playing on their home court on a sun-filled afternoon, the Lions (10-3) came from behind to turn back the Diplomats (5-6). F&M took two doubles matches to open, but TCNJ rallied with four victories in singles competition.
Jack August (Medford, NJ) and
Mike Stanley (Newtown, NJ/Council Rock North) teamed up to win 8-3 at doubles and both won their singles matches to lead the Lions.
Mitchel Sanders (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles with August following with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
Tim Gavornik (Millington, NJ/Watchung Hills) won a big match at fifth singles 7-5, 6-1 and Stanley clinched it with a hard-fought 6-0, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4 victory.
The Lions will host Muhlenberg College this Wednesday, April 12th for a match scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in the TCNJ Tennis Complex.
