Middlebury, VT …. The College of New Jersey men's tennis team suffered a 5-0 setback to Skidmore College in its second round match of the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship Tournament held at Middlebury College.
 
The loss eliminates the 34^th-ranked Lions from the post-season tourney. TCNJ finished the season with a record of 15-4, which matches the most wins for the program under Head Coach Scott Dicheck. The Lions went 15-2 in 2012-13.
 
The Thoroughbreds (12-6) swept the Lions in the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. Senior Jack August (Medford, NJ) battled at second singles to win the opening set, 6-4. He was ahead 3-0 in the second set before the match was clinched. Sophomore Tim Gavornik (Millington, NJ/Watchung Hills) also topped his opponent in the opening set, 6-4 and trailed 1-0 in the second set.
 
Sophomore Mitchel Sanders (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) won his opening set at first singles, 6-1 before 6-3 in the second set and trailed 2-0 in the tie-breaker when the match was clinched.
 
Skidmore, ranked 25^th nationally, now advances to the regional final tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
